Event: Waterfowl and Shorebirds Migrating
Where: Cheyenne Bottoms Preserve
When: March through May
Nearly 30 species of migratory waterfowl and more than three dozen species of migratory shorebirds arrive at Cheyenne Bottoms, including the endangered whooping crane, least tern and piping plover. The spring migration can number up to a million birds.

Please stay on established roads and parking areas; dogs and other pets must remain in your vehicle at all times; and, hunting, fishing and firearms are not allowed on Conservancy property. Open to the public.

The height of the prairie wildflower blooming season is in June, with dozens of species of every size and color.

Hiking trails are open to the public. No dogs allowed.

The autumn migration at Cheyenne Bottoms is not quite as concentrated in time or route as the spring migration. But, as long as there is water in the marshes, many birds can be seen.

Like the deciduous forest, the prairie features fall color as the grasses turn from summer green to gold, auburn and burnt orange.

Hiking trails are open to the public. No dogs allowed.
