The Nature Conservancy Science CouncilStephen PolaskyStephen Polasky holds the Fesler-Lampert Chair in Ecological/Environmental Economics at the University of Minnesota. He is a faculty member of the Department of Applied Economics and of the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. He is also affiliated with the Conservation Biology, Water Resources, Forest Resources, and the Law School. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan in 1986. Prior to coming to Minnesota he held faculty positions in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Oregon State University and the Department of Economics at Boston College. He was the senior staff economist for environment and resources for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers 1998-1999. He served as associate editor and co-editor for the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management from 1996 to 2002. He is currently serving on the Environmental Economics Advisory Committee of the Science Advisory Board of U.S. EPA, Valuing the Protection of Ecological Systems and Services Committee of the Science Advisory Board of U.S. EPA, and as Co-Chair for bioSustainability for DIVERSITAS. His research interests include biodiversity conservation, endangered species policy, integrating ecological and economic analysis, valuing ecosystem services, environment and development, environmental regulation, game theory, common property resources, renewable and non-renewable resources. He recently edited a book entitled The Economics of Biodiversity Conservation. |
