Yunnan Great Rivers Project: Strategies

Practical ways to reduce or eliminate threats.

The highest-ranked source of the highest-ranked stress is the collection of wood to meet household energy requirements. In response, we designed a strategy to introduce alternative sources of fuel in the villages.

The first phase (18 months) will cover 21 villages in the core of the site, including about 600 households. Biogas will be a major part of the program, in about 530 houses, but it will also include fuel-efficient stoves, solar water heating, and some very limited use of in-stream microhydro generators.
