Yunnan Great Rivers Project: Sources

Identifying and ranking the causes of the stresses.

  • Stress on Forest Function:
Clearing for yak grazing; roads and corridors for tourist development; harvesting of wood for fuel (energy) and housing construction.
  • Stress on Forest Structure:
Mostly harvesting of wood for fuel (energy) and to a lesser extent for housing construction.
  • Stress on Species Composition:
Harvesting of wood for fuel (energy) and housing construction (more important for this stress); unsustainable harvesting of plants for horticulture, traditional medicines, and food; illegal hunting.
