The Nature Conservancy believes that the private sector must take a leadership role in conservation by changing the way business is done — incorporating the value of nature into business decisions and processes. To achieve our mission, the Conservancy is working with companies to:
Improve Business Practices — The Conservancy seeks to leverage our global presence, field strength and our science and conservation planning expertise to influence business practices in select industries whose activities can have a significant impact on the natural systems we seek to conserve. We undertake specific projects and develop tools to demonstrate the tangible business returns of incorporating sustainability and the value of nature into a company’s operations and supply chains.
Support Important Science and Conservation Projects — The Conservancy accepts contributions from companies that support conservation at a local, state, national or international level. The Conservancy directs this giving to conservation projects and scientific research that will support large-scale conservation outcomes.
Raise Awareness for Conservation — The Conservancy works with companies to develop campaigns and outreach strategies aimed at broadening the base of support for conservation and reaching new and more diverse audiences with messages about the connection between people and nature.
Champion Conservation Policy — The Conservancy engages with leading companies to help advance conservation policy at all levels of government. Company leaders can be strong, effective advocates for pro-conservation public policy. Business can bring important new perspectives to public policy debates and show elected officials that support for conservation is broad-based and important to all sectors of society.
