Through its Sustainable Living Plan, Unilever has committed to reaching 200 million consumers by 2015 with products and tools that will help them to use less water while washing and showering. Suave, one of Unilever’s largest brands and the #1 hair brand in the U.S., supported the Conservancy’s Global Freshwater Program in 2013 with a contribution of $100,000. Through its Turn off the Tap campaign, now in its third year, Suave encourages consumers to “turn off the tap” to conserve water when using Suave hair and body care products. The 2013 retail partners of the initiative are Safeway and soap.com.
The Nature Conservancy is the largest freshwater conservation organization in the world – operating in 34 countries with more than 600 freshwater conservation sites globally. Today, global demands for food, energy and shelter are putting unprecedented pressure on the resources of the planet, and water is at the heart of this crisis. The Nature Conservancy believes the most effective way to address this crisis includes both traditional engineered infrastructure and solutions rooted in nature.
The Conservancy’s Global Freshwater Program is focused on using our freshwater expertise to fundamentally change how the world manages its water resource. Critical to the success of the Conservancy’s strategy is to educate people about where their water comes from and why it is important to protect these sources. Launched in October 2012, Where Does Your Water Come From? is an innovative website that allows people in 500 cities to locate the source of their drinking water.
