The property is or will be encumbered by a conservation easement as described below.
The Potomac Valley property is located approximately 25 miles east of Missoula, Montana within the Blackfoot watershed. It contains a diverse assemblage of cover types, including upland coniferous forest, agricultural land/pasture, and riparian/wetlands.
The conservation value of the Potomac property is enhanced by its proximity to other protected private lands under conservation easement in the area, public land administered by the Montana Department of Resources and Conservation (DNRC), and former Plum Creek Timber Company lands, that are part of the Montana Legacy Project, a large-scale conservation effort in western Montana.
This property has been identified as a critical wildlife linkage zone and provides seasonal and year-round habitat for grizzly bear, moose, wolverine, fisher and Canada lynx.
This property will be encumbered by a no-build conservation easement that would allow for grazing and timber management under approved plans.
